Mexico Highway 200

December 5th, 2009 · 1 Comment · behind the scenes

michoacanA 5am wake up call to drive down to Michoacan to a fun little surfspot that makes you never want to go home.  I almost didn’t go home, but when I thought about it for more than that instant gratification, “Im staying here!” outburst,  I realized that my coffee rations wouldn’t last more than three days.  Just incase you don’t know, if you run out of coffee in Michoacan, it means you drink that horrible instant brown mixture that they tell you is café.  Maybe it’s a bad excuse, but I wouldn’t have made it.  Surf, sun, hammock, surf, read, snack, beer.  Thats how it goes.  Current project for between swell lull we are facing.  Build my own Alaia!

Weekend Full of Events

Andrew Field making guacamole Hey Tacos!  Rockaway Taco will be dishing out mini fish tacos in Gantry Park in Long Island City Queens on saturday october 17th from 12 - 4pm.  Come check out the Edible Queens participants and see what kind of good food will be served.  Also on Sunday October 18th we will have our Pumpkin Carving event at Rockaway Taco from 4pm til dusk. We will have the Blooming Hill Farms pumpkins available for carving.  I am working on getting apples from a friend that works with Red Jacket Orchards to donate some apples and we can make some hot cider to enjoy while we carve the pumpkins.  We should have most of the stuff donated by our farmer friends.  After spending the afternoon carving all the pumpkins we wanted to turn them into food.  We have a few restaurants that are participating and they will each make a small ‘pumpkin based dish’ that in turn will be sold the following saturday october 24th at the Added Value Farm in Red Hook where they have their fall harvest festival.   Pumpkins carved by rockaway residents, cooked by our chef friends, sold to brooklynites, and then buys seeds for added values crops for the coming year!  I think thats a healthy cycle. Pumpkin carving will be from 4pm until dusk so we can light up the pumpkins.  And one last thing to add is that we will be at Arverne By the Sea for Restaurant week dishing out some free grub from 12-4 sunday october 18 in the sales center on 69th street and Rockaway Beach Blvd.

Recap:  Saturday October 17th Gantry Park L.I.C. Queens 12-4 mini fish tacos

Sunday October 18th Arverne by the sea 69th st. & Rockaway Beach Blvd 12-4

free taco grub!  After that we carve Pumpkins at the Taco Shack!

We are busy!  Come hang with us!

Trying to keep up!

August 17th, 2009 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Check out a bit of what is being said about us.  Cool Hunting threw us some props.

We are really trying to keep up with the volume and not sacrifice the quality at all.  We have a very small space to work with and our hands are the ones making all of your food.  We know that the wait times for food will come down with experience.  Thanks for being patient with us as we learn how to make slow food, faster.
